Broadcast media leader Globo saves over 10% per year on PC and Mac management with Microsoft Intune

Globo, a leading Latin American broadcast media brand, used to have another solution to manage the company’s 1,500 Macs besides Microsoft tools that always have been used to manage more than 13.000 PCs. The situation has created a scenario of decentralized management and additional costs. Today, Globo uses Microsoft Intune for security and management of Macs and PCs, and Windows Autopilot to automatically deploy Windows devices. The move helped Globo save more than five percent per year on its device management budget by unifying the solution and improving the employee experience.

Latin America’s largest media company, Globo, brings together free-to-air and pay TV channels, in addition to digital products and services. Its linear channels speak to more than 100 million people in Brazil every day. “We have a mission to inform, entertain, and contribute to the education of our country through quality content,” he says. With a large number of employees working remotely to help fulfill this critical mission, information security is of the highest importance. Finding ways to support both security and business outcomes is key to Globo’s continued success. “The possibility of managing and protecting all the company’s computers regardless of where they are is part of how we plan to ensure the competitiveness and sustainability of the business,” says Xavier.

Today, Globo Modern Workplace area manages more than 13.000 computers with Microsoft Intune for device configuration, security, and management, including 1,500 Mac laptops. For setup and pre-configuration, they use Windows Autopilot for Windows devices. As a result, Globo has significantly reduced costs and improved efficiency. “With the move to Intune, we have unified Windows and Mac management into a single, modern platform and saved time and costs,” says Xavier.

Consolidating on Microsoft Intune saves time and costs

Before moving to Intune, to manage the 1,500 Macs in the organization, Globo used an alternate solution. In addition, the existing solution for enrolling and managing Windows devices created fragmented management that hampered efficiency because it stood apart from Globo’s toolset. Switching to Intune represented an opportunity to consolidate on Enterprise Mobility + Security licenses that the company already owned, saving money, and simplifying management. “Moving to Intune not only helped us unify management on a single, modern platform for Macs and PCs, we eliminated an annual spend of 10 percent from our device management budget.”, says Messias.

Previously, it was challenging to keep configurations synchronized between tools. “It was sometimes difficult to keep different tools and teams on the same page,” says Messias. Today, Globo uses a combination of Apple Business Manager and Intune to manage Macs, while Windows devices are co-managed with a combination of Intune and Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager. As part of the migration process, Globo used Azure Logic Apps and custom scripts to automate processes and improve transparency for users. “Bringing together administration in Intune helped make us more efficient,” adds Marcos Vinicius de Paula, Modern Workplace Specialist. “It all went very smoothly.”

Improving flexibility with Windows Autopilot

While implementing Intune, Globo also began using Autopilot—a service that works in conjunction with Intune to simplify device enrollment—to set up and preconfigure its Windows devices for employees working remotely. “The main benefits of using Autopilot were time savings, unified management, lightweight OS image, and a better customization experience and settings for users,” says Messias. Enabling a scenario where employees can receive devices at home and enroll them seamlessly is part of Globo’s drive to improve flexibility for employees. “With the combination of Intune and Autopilot, Windows devices are quickly delivered with more flexibility in the standard configuration required by the company,” says Vinicius de Paula.

After the success of moving PCs to Intune and Autopilot, and the migration of 1,500 Macs to Intune, Globo is exploring additional ways to maximize its investment. Next, the business plans to explore the use of Intune for mobile application management. “Today, we envision Intune as our only platform for device management, including for mobile application management” shares Vinicius de Paula. “We are excited about the roadmap and evolution of Intune at the company,” adds Messias.
