Vega de Yuco cuts through business information silos in a few clicks with TIPSA VinoTEC suite for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

At the beginning of 2020, prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, an entrepreneurial generation of winemakers and business managers at Bodegas Vega de Yuco S.A.T. sought to embrace digitization toward their goals of expanding productivity, enabling a secure hybrid workspace, enhancing collaboration, and increasing the confidence and agility of their decision-making. The board of directors engaged TIPSA S.L., a Microsoft gold partner with expertise in automating food and beverage production, to solve specific winemaking business needs for finance, supply chain management, sales, and customer services. After a two-hour TIPSA briefing on Microsoft technology for SMBs, Vega de Yuco undertook a strategic transformation to implement VinoTEC, a cloud-hosted, subscription-based winery management solution that integrates natively with Microsoft 365. Thanks to the modern business management ecosystem built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Microsoft Power Platform, Vega de Yuco saves costs, protects its business from cyberattacks, and easily performs daily operations with a few clicks.

For more than two decades, Bodegas Vega de Yuco S.A.T., located on Lanzarote in Spain’s Canary Islands, has combined artisanal winemaking with innovative technology to produce wines that authentically express the sublime terroir of the volcanic landscape where the grapes are grown.

At the beginning of 2020, the winery recognized the need to digitalize business processes and unify data from all departments. The company wanted to reduce IT costs, eliminate data silos containing duplicated data, simplify reporting obligations, and gain business insights leading to increased competitiveness.

Vega de Yuco chose TIPSA, a Microsoft gold partner with deep expertise in the food and beverage sector, to migrate processes to VinoTEC, TIPSA’s industry-specific solution built on Microsoft Dynamics 365, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and Microsoft Power BI.

TIPSA provides expertise in the wine, food, and beverage industries, including wineries, canned food production, distilleries, olive oil production, and convenience food. More than 400 companies use its solutions to manage every step of production, from sourcing raw agricultural products to distribution and financial reporting. Through the VinoTEC Winery Management: 2-Hour Briefing, TIPSA demonstrated how Vega de Yuco could fully realize its strategic vision. Despite the onset of the global pandemic and rapidly shifting circumstances, the project progressed toward Vega de Yuco’s goal of achieving winemaking Industry 4.0

VinoTEC is an ecosystem of interconnected apps built on Dynamics 365 Business Central to simplify and boost daily operations for wineries. The suite of apps extends Dynamics 365 Business Central with specific tools that manage farm labor, harvests, lab test analysis, bulk items management during the winemaking process, traceability, and reporting. VinoTEC seamlessly integrates processes for finance, supply chain management, manufacturing, sales, and customer service operations.

By moving from on-premises systems to tools integrated with Microsoft 365, Vega de Yuco’s users can share knowledge and securely collaborate with colleagues, business partners, and customers from everywhere, using mobile or desktop apps and increasing productivity. The new system eliminated on-premises systems containing isolated data in favor of a single source of truth for all departments to reference in VinoTEC.

Thanks to the software-as-a-service licensing model, Vega de Yuco avoided paying high upfront costs for servers and software licenses. The company also saved on IT costs related to managing software updates and security policies, and the new model allows the company to scale usage according to its workloads, providing further savings. Automatic software updates and backups are included in the monthly price, helping to ensure security. With the new suite of tools, Vega de Yuco benefits from enterprise-level security on Azure, protection against malware and cyberattacks, and built-in tools for complying with the GDPR.

With VinoTEC, Vega de Yuco can easily address industry-specific requirements for winemakers to report to regulatory bodies regarding food security, traceability, data privacy, taxes, and tariffs. The new system features Power BI reports integrated with Dynamics 365 Business Central, enabling real-time display of core KPIs and business insights.

Processes that previously took hours or days of manual work now can be accomplished with a few clicks.
