Englewood Health and its more than 3,700 employees—including 1,100 physicians and other medical staff—provides world-class health services at 100-plus locations across New Jersey and New York. Its applications, scattered across more than 600 virtual machines (VMs), deal with a variety of business and healthcare activities—from human resource management (HRM) systems to virtual patient monitoring and diagnostic support, as well as healthcare-only apps that connect the clinical and operational sides. CloudIQ helped Englewood consolidate its fragmented IT architecture in Microsoft Azure to enhance productivity and optimize resources.
Customer Challenges
As an early adopter of new technology, the Englewood team was using the very best digital technology. But the various solutions had been adopted in a piecemeal manner, leaving the Englewood’s IT architecture fragmented and underutilized. The healthcare provider was looking for an optimized IT infrastructure in the cloud that would consolidate and gradually replace its existing on-premises data center. It also sought an overall boost in performance and efficiency via task automation. Ultimately, Englewood wanted to realize the benefits of the cloud by actively pursuing cost and time optimization.
Partner Solution
The CloudIQ team worked with the Englewood IT team to build a future-ready and highly scalable IT architecture on Microsoft Azure. The teams used a three-pronged strategy, starting with a resource audit and assessment, followed by network infrastructure design, and then datacenter migration. The CloudIQ team performed the migration in waves. Application dependencies were studied and mapped, and a cluster-based migration plan was devised. Interconnected app clusters were migrated in batches, ensuring a seamless and zero-downtime transition.
Customer Benefits
By migrating to Azure and using Azure infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) capabilities, Englewood now enjoys a modern hybrid Azure infrastructure that provides enhanced security with updated network infrastructure, while keeping domain management simple. VM consolidation and modernization reduced costs almost immediately by leveraging Azure Hybrid Benefit. In addition, the Azure Migrate assessment tool enabled a significant boost in performance, with a CPU utilization of 60 to 70 percent.
“By migrating 300-plus applications from Englewood Health’s datacenter to Azure, we were able to deliver a modern hybrid Azure infrastructure with enhanced security. This new infrastructure helps the Englewood team make better decisions and enhance the overall care provided for the community.”
