Y. Hata & Co., Limited, a large, family-owned food service distributor in Hawaii, has been an essential part of the state's economy for more than 109 years. Facing ever-growing customers’ demands, the company required an integrated commerce platform for its cash-and-carry division, ChefZone. The food distributor needed to upscale its managerial productivity and overall output, and it turned to Visionet Systems for deployment of Microsoft Dynamics 365 to deliver a faster, highly integrated commerce solution. The implementation resulted in both higher scalability and increased customer satisfaction for ChefZone.
Customer challenges
Among the many challenges that Y. Hata faced for its ChefZone division was a lack of centralized system, leading to inefficiencies in dealing with divergent data formats, communication standards, and integration methodologies. This included disconnected credit-card payment processes, which caused significant time delays in reconciliations. In addition, Y. Hata had more than 14 separate solutions for managing its overall business, resulting in data inconsistencies and delayed information-sharing.
“Our subsidiary ChefZone was facing multiple challenges and required a technological suite that could enhance its overall performance,” said Brian Marting, Chief Financial Officer of Y. Hata. “Our quest for digital transformation led us to reach out to Visionet and Microsoft.”
Partner solution
To address the operational infrastructure needs of ChefZone, Y. Hata leveraged the expertise of Visionet and the capabilities of Dynamics 365 to drive an infrastructural overhaul.
By adopting the platform, the retailer gained a 360-degree customer view and a robust inventory-management solution that includes advanced warehouse-management (WMS) capabilities. Visionet also enabled seamless integration of digital price tags for more than 6,000 products and implemented a point-of-sale (POS) system that enhanced credit-limit checks.
Customer benefits
The implementation provided Y. Hata and ChefZone with numerous benefits, including increased scalability. The cash-and-carry division modernized its legacy systems and achieved in-sync operations, which now provide greater accuracy and faster order fulfillment. It also improved store workforce efficiency by 6 to 8 percent through electronic shelf tags that use dynamic pricing. Importantly, the unified shopping experience across all channels improved brand loyalty and customer satisfaction.
