How SharePoint and Office2SharePoint are helping Cadeler drive its growing business forward

A growing company requires cloud flexibility and greater security

Based in Denmark, hybrid construction and shipping company Cadeler’s goal is to facilitate the world’s transition to a greener tomorrow by being the key supplier for offshore wind energy development. Since 2012, Cadeler has installed nearly 400 offshore wind turbines and more than 500 foundations – enough to power more than 6.3 million European households. With three new offshore wind installation vessels being added to its original fleet of two in a few years, it will have the largest fleet in the offshore wind industry. 

As the company grew, Cadeler needed a cloud-based upgrade to its document management system; an on-site solution no longer met its demands. Much of Cadeler’s project-based business requires secure collaboration with suppliers, stakeholders, and customers. 

“Our up- and downstream suppliers are companies that expect us to handle their sensitive information in a confidential and 100 percent secure way,” Cadeler IT Specialist Lars Kirstein said. “We are confident that Microsoft SharePoint is providing the necessary data security for our business and our customers’ businesses.”

The new SharePoint site for Cadeler had to be built around specific requirements based on the ISO standards for records management, while taking customer requirements into consideration. It was also important that employees could manage and use the system intuitively, so that every document and record is handled according to the governance and compliance policies. 

Helping Cadeler’s employees handle their files and records

Security and compliance were the most important considerations as Cadeler set out to build a document storage system that was also easy to use. “When we started the process of setting up and implementing SharePoint, our primary focus was compliance and meeting both external and internal requirements,” said Signe Storm Menard, Cadeler’s Lead Records Manager. “Thanks to good collaboration and dialogue with iGlobe we now have a document management system that meets our requirements and is built within a standard SharePoint Online environment. This ensures automatic upgrades from Microsoft, so we know we have the latest features and highest security level.”

As the world moves toward a more sustainable future and Cadeler's business grows, its employees can’t spend extra time managing files and documents. Its SharePoint site, combined with Office2SharePoint from iGlobe, helps employees manage their file and record handling with ease and according to internal policies and industry regulations.

“Now we have a consistent file and document structure in place across all projects,” Menard said. “Every new site we create is automatically based on the same structure. We can also look up any file in SharePoint while being on Teams using Office2SharePoint for Teams – it creates a seamless experience. This frees up a lot of time for us and helps us concentrate on the main task: helping our customers meet their goals.”
