SERTECPET implements Dynamics 365 for Supply Chain Management to optimize processes and promote sustainability

SERTECPET is a multinational company that develops solutions for the energy sector and was founded in Ecuador by the López Robayo family. In its 30 years of operation, it has been widely recognized in the market for its productive capabilities based on technological innovation, high added value and sustainable processes.

In this context, the Ecuadorian corporation implemented Dynamics 365 for Finance and Dynamics 365 for Supply Chain together with AlfaPeople, a Microsoft Latin America Partner.

Digital transformation

"Since 2014, we have been working with AlfaPeople and Microsoft on ERP consolidation projects, as well as on solutions involving Dynamics AX," says Daniel Alejandro Vallejo Albán, Information Technology Coordinator at SERTECPET. In this way, a path to a digital transformation was laid out that allowed for the interconnection of data between the different plants of the corporation. "We realized in April 2019 that the cost-benefit ratio when migrating from Dynamics AX 2012 R3 to Dynamics 365 for Supply Chain would be favorable to us in terms of investment, and in a short time," the SERTECPET Coordinator says.

At the beginning of 2019, SERTECPET decided to expand the implementation of Dynamics 365 in Colombia to its Ecuadorian parent company and its subsidiary in Peru. "We joined forces with SERTECPET to implement Dynamics 365 for Supply Chain and Dynamics 365 for Finance. These solutions, after specifically designing and building them, solved many of the demands the company had. The project allowed us to achieve the goal of implementing, for the first time in Latin America, Dynamics 365 Supply Chain in a company dedicated to the energy sector," shares José Francisco Lainez Román, General Manager at AlfaPeople Ecuador and the person in charge of the solution for SERTECPET.

Dynamics 365 for Supply Chain and its SaaS (or software as a service) modeling, hosted on Azure, brings with it the ability to increase or decrease the number of users based on each company's production capacity. By deploying it alongside Microsoft integrated solutions, SERTECPET was able to obtain online data and information from its production plants in Colombia and Ecuador.

"Another component required by SERTECPET when developing the project was to obtain a technological tool that offered connectivity and security anywhere there was a production plant. Although its base of operations is located in Quito, SERTECPET operates in more remote locations, such as in eastern Ecuador. Software that works in terms of client/server, didn't work for them. By acquiring Dynamics 365 with its wide range of solutions, it was possible to consolidate information and also streamline production operations," explains the AlfaPeople Manager in Ecuador.

Microsoft and its intuitive docking solutions have enabled the Ecuadorian company to relay remotely collected information to Dynamics 365 for Finance, which in turn enables highly detailed extraction and reporting in dashboard formats generated in Power BI.

"The information generated from Dynamics 365, with its intuitive interface, gives us access to data modeled by Power BI to increasingly refine our management," says Daniel Vallejo, Information Technology Coordinator. The management model used in the Ecuadorian company has been recognized by EFQM (European Foundation Quality Management), making SERTECPET the first company in the world to be evaluated by said entity digitally in the context of COVID-19.

A digital and sustainable future

Ensuring not only profitability but also sustainability is of high priority for SERTECPET. Over the course of 30 years as a company, SERTECPET has developed several high-tech patents to safely advance oil and gas extraction that increasingly impacts the environment.

Moving forward, the goal is to achieve an optimized extraction margin, applying information-based mechanisms in order to minimize the impact on the environment. Together with Alfapeople and Microsoft, SERTECPET understands that innovation and digital transformation do not pose challenges: they are the new reality, and the drivers of future projects for business process optimization and industry sustainability.
