Fast Shop consolidated its data platform on Microsoft Azure and is now ready for the era of AI

Fast Shop required an upgrade of its data platform in order to improve decision making and create the foundations for the adoption of AI.
Fast Shop performed an assessment in partnership with UPBI and decided to migrate its data platform to Microsoft Azure, thus consolidating information, enhancing governance, and improving the strategic decision process.

Fast Shop created a robust data environment with Microsoft and laid the foundations for the development of AI solutions. They created a self-service culture of access to data, eliminated delays, reduced costs, and increased leadership satisfaction with data while providing more agility in reporting.

We achieved cost reduction, delivery speed, enhanced data governance, security, and autonomy for the business areas.

A brand of quality and innovation
Fast Shop is a renowned Brazilian retail chain, focused on offering high-quality services and products and enriching the consumers’ daily life with technology, design, and intelligence. The company has more than 80 brick-and-mortar stores throughout the country, and its online presence (through website and app) broadens its reach to the whole territory.

Data modernization
The company was faced with the challenge of upgrading its data platform, based on legacy solutions, hosted in a data center in Hortolândia, a city in the countryside of the state of São Paulo—which also generated high costs.

To deal with this issue, Fast Shop counted on the support from UPBI, a Microsoft consultancy partner with an advanced expertise in data analytics on Microsoft Azure. UPBI carried out an assessment of Fast Shop’s scenario and proposed a digital transformation towards the cloud.

The data reliability we are currently able to deliver in the reports for decision making is much better! Previously, we used to always hear complaints, something we don’t hear anymore. We don’t have delays or distrust anymore.

Consolidating information on Microsoft Azure
The objective of the project, which Fast Shop called Expedição Everest (Everest Expedition), was the migration of all data and reports to Microsoft Azure in order to create a culture of self-service access using tools like Azure Analysis Services, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, SQL Database, Azure Storage, Event Hubs, and Microsoft Power BI. Furthermore, the project involved data cleaning and optimization, reducing by half—a little over 50%—the number of load and transformation objects, leading to an improvement in governance and security of this range of information.
In seven months, within the defined timeline, the migration was completed. This new scenario brought several benefits to Fast Shop, such as the reduction of costs related to data center maintenance and licenses from the previous provider, a significant increase in agility and reliability for report delivery to strategic sectors within the chain—making them more proactive with the use of Microsoft Power BI. According to Fernanda Siqueira, IT Executive Manager at Fast Shop, “We achieved cost reduction, delivery speed, enhanced data governance, security, and autonomy for the business areas.”
There was also a significant improvement in the quality and accuracy of data, which became the only source of truth for decision making. Fernanda adds, “The data reliability we are currently able to deliver in the reports for decision making is much better! Previously, we used to always hear complaints, something we don’t hear anymore. We don’t have delays or distrust anymore."

Recently, we ran a few artificial intelligence projects with Microsoft Copilot Studio and can certainly say that Fast Shop’s is the most robust.

Felipe Monteiro, Head of Marketing, UPBI

Ready for the AI era
This entire maturity process provided the ideal environment within the retailer’s data platform for the adoption of AI solutions, which are expected to help Fast Shop in strengthening its relationship with customers, leading to an enhanced purchase experience in the chain’s channels. Felipe Monteiro, Head of Marketing at UPBI, comments on this new journey aimed at customizing the customer experience: “Recently, we ran a few artificial intelligence projects with Microsoft Copilot Studio and can certainly say that Fast Shop’s is the most robust.”
Fast Shop is an example of how companies may benefit from the organization of their available data to achieve digital transformation, using Microsoft Azure solutions to get ready for the next step towards AI.
