One of the largest retail banks in Cyprus, Hellenic Bank emerged as a forerunner of digital transformation in the Central and Eastern Europe financial sector in 2017, when it started adopting digital tools to serve its customers better. It adopted Microsoft 365 tools like SharePoint Online and Microsoft Teams to its core processes, creating a productive workplace environment that empowers more than 3,000 employees to collaborate more easily to meet customers’ needs.
“Digitalization starts from within. We have to become digital when it comes to not only our internal processes but also our mindset and culture. Only then can we start offering digital tools to our customers,” says Yannis Matsis, CEO at Hellenic Bank. The bank’s digital journey started in 2017, when it initiated a digital transformation from its core, which included the adoption of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales with the help of Dot.Cy, a member of the Microsoft Partner Network. As the next step and with the support of Microsoft and systems integrator Logicom Solutions Ltd, Hellenic Bank implemented Microsoft 365 productivity solutions.
Connecting talent and unleashing productivity
Fostering team cohesion became a priority after a strategic acquisition of the second biggest bank on the island doubled Hellenic Bank’s resources. To manage the cultural shift and unite teams, the bank set up an intranet portal using SharePoint Online that worked with Microsoft 365 applications. George Sklavos, Communications Manager at Hellenic Bank, shares, “It’s an extreme improvement in internal communication. Now, we can share live or prerecorded video messages of our CEO using Microsoft Stream, or share any of the activities that different departments are doing through the portal and monitor the engagement.”
“External meetings, daily scrum meetings, training sessions, and live events are now done in Microsoft Teams, which lets us connect with each other from anywhere and on any device. We save 15 to 30 minutes from each meeting, because we no longer have to go from one place to another, and we find information faster,” details Pambos Franjeskos, CTO at Hellenic Bank.
The team adopted the new technologies quickly and increased their internal collaboration. “In just a few months, our usage of Teams and OneDrive increased by 200 percent, reaching 3,000 active users and 4.6 million files stored respectively, and by 300 percent for SharePoint with half a million files stored and 1,500 sites created,” reveals George Georgiades, Senior Business Architect at Hellenic Bank.
In addition to improving its internal processes, the company’s also using Microsoft technology to better meet its customers’ needs. “We also built Power BI dashboards to help us easily identify and understand customers’ credit card and ATM use, so we can serve them better,” adds Georgiades.
Looking ahead
Hellenic Bank is investing in its workforce by providing training opportunities to employees on Microsoft Azure technologies, while further exploring both Azure and Dynamics 365 cloud capabilities. “We’re now focused on increasing branch profitability, so we’re developing Dynamics 365 Customer Service use cases. We’re also in the process of moving our mobile app to Azure,” Constantinos Papadamou, Enterprise Architect lead at Hellenic Bank announces.
“I encourage all my colleagues to embrace and actively use the full suite of Microsoft 365 solutions, as this will make work more fun, teams more productive, and further enable our efforts for an incremental flexible work environment, including working from home,” Matsis concludes.
